About the Awards

The 6th annual POPAI South Africa Marketing at Retail Awards were held at the bustling Capital Empire Hotel in Sandton on Thursday, 11 November 2016.  The gala event was hosted by laugh-a-minute comedian, Robby Collins, and this year, we were privileged to welcome special guest, Phil Day, Director of POPAI UK & Ireland who travelled to South Africa to support the local chapter and offer congratulations to its worthy winners. 

The annual POPAI SA Awards provide a platform to showcase and reward leading manufacturers, service providers and brands for excellence in point-of-sale display and in-store communication produced in South Africa over the past 12 months.

The event kicked off by honouring Fishwicks Printers who topped the Alcoholic Beverages:  Temporary category at the 2016 Global Awards held in Las Vegas in March this year.

The stylish dinner event culminated in the awarding of Display of the Year (Gold) that went to Bottomline Interactive for Lindt’s Personalise your Hello Pack digital activation entry.  Huge stand-out coupled with interactivity and wow factor positioned this entry very firmly on top of the pile with the judges. MD of Bottomline Interactive, Alex Baroutsos, said, “We love being challenged by clients and agencies with crazy and impossible ideas - especially when it involves using digital to create memorable moments. To keep the experience magical and engaging though often means spending as much time researching and planning how it all works as it does in creating the final product, so to have our work picked apart and acknowledged by industry professionals is a very rewarding and validating experience for us - confirming our belief that digital has a strong place in retail.”

Silver runner-up in Display of the Year category went to LimelightSA who clinched their spot with the bold and inviting Playgirl Perfect Accessory display while the Bronze trophy went to Fishwicks Printers for the Ceres FSU for the clever use of materials and shape to bring the product to life and engage shoppers in its benefits.
