About the Awards

January ended on a high note for POPAI shop! in South Africa with the annual, highly prestigious Retail at Marketing Awards held recently at The Maslow in Sandton. These awards recognise brands and agencies who excel in the retail and shopper engagement spaces. POPAI and it’s members also place emphasises on innovation, best practice as well as delivering the ultimate creativity.
The proceedings started off with an address by the COO of Sun International, Mr Rob Collins who shared some really insightful case studies and encouraged everyone to be passionate about what they do.


The panel of judges included: CEO of TLC  Derek Miller, MD of Black Like Me Connie Mashaba, Jauneen Tarin a Director of Kantar Consulting, Jacqui Le Sar Fourie of Inperspective and Director of Red Jersey, Janet Kirkbride. The learned group based their judging criteria on, Interpretation of brief, Design, Construction-use of material, Use of retail space, Branding, Innovation, Performance and X Factor




The Categories ranged from Food and Beverages , Cosmetics and Personal Hygiene , Liquor and Tobacco through to Telecommunications and Financial Services . The Big winners at the gala dinner included:

Hewitt & Association who scooped The Display of the Year award and Onyx Media in the Innovation of the year for product or service.
