Retailers strive to stand out with apps, in-store service

As they prepare to formally kick off the holiday shopping season, retailers are not just stocking shelves but also gearing up their apps so they can reach customers through every channel available.The question is no longer whether brick and mortar will survive. It's how can stores get shoppers to browse on their phones, online and in the store."The misconception is that it's in store or online. 

It's not, it's in store andonline," said James Russo, who heads Neilsen's global consumer insights sector for market research. "It's about capturing the consumers where they are."
